Swiss luxury watchmaker Jaquet Droz is a tale of two eras. Founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in 1738, Pierre Jaquet-Droz's advanced sound-centric clocks were chiming and playing music by the mid-1740’s. After lucrative business with Spain’s King Ferdinand VI, Pierre's passion turned to automata – animated dolls run by sophisticated clockwork mechanisms. Between 1768 and 1774, a trio of automata became legendary and are still functional at the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire of Neuchâtel in Switzerland.
